Abstract

Two main types of Passive Optical Networks (PONs) have been proposed as a replacement plant for the conventional telephony network and for future services: “broadcast” splitter-based PONs in which all subscribers receive a common optical signal, and “switched” Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) PONs in which each subscriber receives a private wavelength.
