Abstract

A 980 nm InGaAs MOPA is coupled to a single-mode optical fiber using microoptics. Up to 1.2 W of cw fiber-coupled power is obtained with a coupling efficiency of 77%. The combination of high diffraction-limited output power and high coupling efficiency makes this source ideally suited for pumping rare-earth-doped fiber amplifiers.
