Abstract
For long-haul and high-bit-rate optical transmission systems, high-speed optical transmitters and receivers have been actively developed. We have previously reported a low-noise optical receiver module for 10-Gbit/s transmission systems.1 In this paper we report a low-modulation-voltage transmitter module that uses an electroabsorption modulator (EA-MOD) integrated with a distributed-feedback laser diode (DFB-LD) with a fiber pigtail. The performance of the module and the results of a transmission experiment at 10 G bit/s in which this module was used are presented.
