Abstract

The implementation performance and characteristics of the optical 16 × 16 ATM switching matrix schematically represented in Fig. 1 and described in detail in Ref. 1 depend on the optimization of some fundamental physical parameters. For that purpose we have implemented a 3 × 3 test bed and have studied its potentialities in order to extend the matrix capability to as many as 16 input channels. Channel spacing and amplified-spontaneous-emission (ASE) filtering are the main parameters considered.
