Abstract

Optical interconnection is crucial for eliminating the board-to-board interconnection bottleneck1 arising with advances in VLSI technology. It will be significant in broadband ATM switching systems because switching networks include a number of highspeed links. Optical interconnects including a multiplexer and a demultiplexer are especially useful for reducing the number of connections. This paper reports a 2.8-Gbit/s dc-coupled optical transmitter and receiver with 700-Mbit/s electrical ports.
