Abstract

High temperature resistant optical fiber coatings are in growing demand for automotive, military, medical, and other applications. Both metallic and polymeric coatings are considered. One of the polymeric coatings, polyimide, has excellent thermal stability and chemical resistance together with good dielectric properties. It is capable of safely withstanding temperatures up to 350°C.
