Abstract

Several laboratories around the world have recently reported the operation of multigigabit coherent systems.1-3 However, long term operation of such systems has not been discussed, mainly because of fluctuation in the state of polarization (SOP) of the optical signal in the fiber, inadequate intermediate frequency (IF) acquisition/locking functions, and laser instability.
