Abstract

Over the past 30 years, the demand for transoceanic telecommunications traffic has been increasing at a steady pace. In the North Atlantic, which has shown the largest and earliest traffic demands, undersea system installations have enjoyed an exponential growth rate that ranges somewhere between 20 and 27 % /yr, as shown in Fig. 1.
