Abstract

Polarization-maintaining fibers are used in coherent optical communication systems and optical fiber sensors. To produce coherent optical communication systems, it is important to improve transmission loss of the fibers up to the leve1 of usual single-mode fibers. To use polarization-maintaining fibers for coiled fiber sensors such as a fiber optical gyroscope, it is necessary to improve the polarization stability against bending.
