Abstract
The state of the art of optical device technology is still far from any established optoelectronics. It requires large and sophisticated equipment to generate, multiplex, demultiplex, and detect optical signals. Application of IC technology is expected to bring breakthroughs in this field. Among them, integration of optical devices with electrical devices may be the highlight that will make optical equipment compact and as easy to use as conventional electrical components.1-3 This paper presents examples of optoelectronic ICs, which have the functions of both light emitter and modulator and indicate the future direction of the technology.
