Abstract

Since the introduction of digital optical recording in the early eighties, there has been a steady demand for an increased capacity storage medium. Apart from creative approaches such as superresolution, the density enhancement is usually pursued by more conventional techniques, i.e. by reduction of the spot size using shorter laser wavelengths and higher numerical aperture optics.
