Abstract

Optical disk file memories for real time digital data recording have been actively developed these few years in several places. Recently, we have developed optical disk file memory labo-model for coded data and document data storage. The basic configuration of the developed optical disk memory is shown in Fig.1. Air-sandwitched pre-grooved disks with 1.6μm track pitch are used. A recording layer consisting of Te-Se alloy is evaporated on the pre-grooved substrate 300mm in diameter. Each track is divided into 64 sectors beginning with a heading section in which track address, sector address, and other information are pre-recorded. A single diode laser is used as the light source for writing and reading data. The optical head with the diode laser is mounted on a tandem shuttle(linear actuator). Storage capacity of one disk is 2GB for two surfaces. Data transfer rate is about 300KB/s and the average seek time is less than 150ms.
