Optical Limits to Parallel Processing by Fabry-Perot Etalons

Not Accessible

Abstract

Knowledge of the limits to the number of parallel elements accessible for a Fabry-Perot (FP) etalon is important for the ultimate realization of a parallel optical processor. Based on linear Gaussian beam analysis, we predict a limit on the number of independent pixels available using a FP and a single imaging lens, due to decreased performance for inclined beams. This analysis is valid as long as self-focusing does not occur.
