Signal fidelity in optical distribution with fiber amplifiers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The signal fidelity in optical distribution with fiber amplifiers is measured by its ability to retain its signal to noise ratio and amplification linearity. Because of the strong dependence of the optical noise on the pump power, input power, and optical filter, each individual distribution system must be configured according to the specific signal to noise requirements. On the other hand, the slow amplifier gain dynamics ensure amplification linearity in high speed digital and subcarrier multiplexed analog video distribution systems.
