Abstract

The laser induced fluorescence spectrum of HgBr between 260 and 450 nm (B2Σ+X2Σ+) and C2Π1/2X2Σ+) has been recorded. Rotationally cold HgBr(X) was produced with both continuous and pulsed corona excited supersonic jet discharge expansions of the precursor HgBr2 in helium. Full isotopic resolution of the vibronic bandheads was observed for the B2Σ+X2Σ+ transition. The preliminary vibrational numbering is in agreement with the published assignment from low resolution absorption spectra,1 and a complete vibrational analysis will yield more precise (~0.3 cm-1) spectroscopic constants for the B(2Σ+) state.
