Abstract

Optical transitions near the band gap of semiconductors are dominated by the electron-hole (e-h) correlation which results in large excitonic enhancement. They exhibit quantum size effects whenever the dimensions of a semiconductor structure are of the order of the bulk exciton radius, ao. Recently quasi-2-D excitonic effects have been investigated extensively in quantum well (QW) structures of high optical quality.
