Abstract
There are several holographic recording materials, such as silver halide, dichromated gelatin, and photoresists; most require extensive processing and do not survive water immersion. We have developed a novel polymeric material that is ideal for holograms that require water immersion and do not need extensive processing. The basic material composition is based on poly-2 hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) photopolymer that is sensitive in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. We have tested this system, which displayed excellent survivability in water over a period of several weeks.
