Growth and Characterization of Photorefractive KTa1−xNbxO3:Cu,V

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

KTa1−xNbxO3:Cu,V (KTN) has shown promise as a photorefractive material. Past attempts at growing optical quality KTN have proved difficult. By careful choice of dopants and growth conditions we have successfully grown optical quality KTN:Cu,V using the top seeded solution growth method. A complete characterization of the photorefractive properties of KTN:Cu,V in the paraelectric phase is presented. The photorefractive properties have been found to strongly depend on bias field and temperature. Chemical reduction treatments and absorption measurements have been used to control and study the photorefractive properties.
