Abstract
We have passively mode-locked a NaCl color center laser to produce pulses with τ < 200 fs using bulk InGaAsP as a saturable absorber. In the first passively mode-locked NaCl color center laser InGaAs/InP multiple quantum wells1 were used as the saturable absorber. Our results simplify the material requirements for the saturable absorber and prove that passive mode locking does not require excitons or 2-D confinement provided by multiple quantum wells.
