Apochromatic color correction using liquid optical elements: experimental verification

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A new method of attaining apochromatic color correction in optical systems has been developed. With this technique, low-cost normally dispersive optical glasses are combined with abnormally dispersive optical liquids to form optical systems having superior chromatic correction. To verify the advantages of this approach, two telescope objectives using one and two liquids in combination with the common glasses BK7 and F2 were fabricated and tested. Design details, athermalization methods, and measured performance data are presented.
