Abstract
A method is demonstrated for transmitting an image through a distorting medium using two holograms. A lens projects the object beam A1 to form an image onto an image plane where the first holographic plate H1 is located. A second holographic plate H2 is placed a short distance beyond H1. The reference beam R2 for H2 is a plane wave incident normal to H2. The reference beam R1 for H1 traverses the distorting medium prior to reaching H1. After the holograms are developed, a mirror placed beyond H2 and parallel to it reflects R2 back onto H2. This in turn generates the complex conjugate of the object A1*, which is incident on H1 from behind. A1* acts as a reference beam for viewing H1 and produces a conjugate signal beam R1*. This beam is retraced through the distorter carrying with it an undistorted conjugate image of the original object. Thus R1 acts as a carrier of the information through the distorting medium.
