Abstract

We have addressed the problem of designing corrected lens systems using off-the-shelf elements (i.e., lens elements with discreet parameters), as might be found in a catalog. Our approach has been to take an existing algorithm, the simulated annealing algorithm, rederive the underlying statistical mechanics, and apply it to the optical engineering problem.
