Abstract

Soliton propagation in optical fibers for signals with a single carrier frequency has important applications in optical communications. Raman solitons involve signals with at least two frequencies (pump and Stokes). They show the features of pulse narrowing and intrinsic amplification and are promising for new communication technologies. Their propagation in Raman media with homogeneous broadening is well understood.1
