Theoretical and empirical characterization of changes in performance with eccentricity is used to assess the availability of location information in the human visual system. We first examine conditions in which a single scaling function can be used to describe performance at various eccentricities. We then consider performance on two types of task: (1) detection of presence/absence of stimuli, and (2) Vernier acuity and discrimination of length.
