Abstract
It is shown that, because of the effects of the turbulent atmosphere, the two-point joint density function for the intensity of a monochromatic fully developed speckle pattern changes from a joint modified Rician distribution to a distribution that is a weighted sum of K distributions. Parameters of the distribution are expressed in terms of beam size, path length, strength of turbulence, wave length, and spacing of the two points. The two- point joint moments of the intensity are also estimated. The new results correctly reduce to the previously known results for speckle with no atmospheric turbulence and to atmospheric turbulence results with no speckle.
