Abstract
Study of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices often requires a precise knowledge of the behavior of the propagating acoustic field on the substrate. Laser heterodyne probes, used traditionally for this purpose, have recently been complemented by an all-fiber design, which overcomes some of the problems inherent in the bulk-optic techniques. This, however, cannot be operated at all acoustic frequencies unless special measures are adopted.
