Color multiplexing by image holograms

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We propose a multiplexing method using image holograms obtained from black-and-white transparencies, illuminated by a plane wave front. Using different reference beam angles, the hologram for each one of the transparencies is recorded; in such conditions the spatial frequency carrier at the hologram plane is varied. As we are dealing with cosinusoidal gratings, the reconstruction can be made using white light. This implies that for each reference beam angle in the recording step, a different color corresponds in the reconstruction step. Therefore, since each transparency was recorded with a different angle, each will appear in a different color, and by using color filters we can select the desired image. This method also permits the use of different techniques to carry out pseudocoloration.
