All-Optical Flip-Flop based on an Active Stopband-Tapered DFB Structure

Abstract

Flip-flop operation with low power threshold in the 50 μW range can be achieved with an active DFB grating having a tapered corrugation amplitude. We simulate bistable switching, and we report on all-optical diode behaviour which might be used for optical isolation.
