Abstract

Recently, many lumped repeater amplifier experiments, using Er doped optical fiber amplifiers, have been reported [1-5]. The advantage of these systems is that the system will be constructed by only optical amplifier repeaters, and these systems will be realized by a small number of 3R repeater electronic regenerators in total systems. So, the optical amplifier repeaters which will operate in the ultra high speed optical transmission systems, are very attractive, because the total systems will be constructed based on the necessity for a small number of high speed and high performance electronic 3R regenerators. These repeaters will reduce the total cost for the systems in the future.
