Abstract

In optical fibers, the interplay of the optical Kerr effect and chromatic dispersion leads to modulational instability (MI) [1]: a continuous wave undergoes a modulation of its amplitude or phase in the presence of quantum noise or a frequency shifted signal wave (induced-MI).
