Abstract
Poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) is a conjugated polymer known for its interesting optical and electrical properties. In particular, its large third-order optical nonlinearity measured by degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) has been reported by several workers1,2,3,4. Of special interest is the processability of PPV in the form of its soluble precursor, which allows fabrication of this otherwise insoluble conjugated polymer into films of pure PPV or composites of PPV using an inorganic (sol-gel)5,6 polymer host.
