Abstract
We present new results on the dynamics of solid-state lasers with a few number of modes. Organized collective behavior has been observed in various nonlinear optical systems, suggesting some generic behavior of periodic solutions in multimode lasers [1 - 5]. For instance, antiphase modulation of an N-mode laser is a self-organized collective behavior in which each mode is characterized by N relaxation frequencies ω1< ω2< ω…<ωN, while the total frequency oscillates only at ωN. We have obtained analytic expressions for these frequencies in the N-mode case and we have determined the domain of parameters in which antiphase modulation occurs.
