Abstract
The superior mirage is seen under conditions of temperature inversion. If the vertical atmospheric temperature profile is known, the computer simulation of such observations is relatively straightforward1; but in most cases the necessary information is not available. However, with suitable assumptions, this distribution can be deduced from the mirage of a known object.
