Abstract

Enzyme remains an appealing candidate as bioreceptor in development of sensor for its rapid and selective way of catalyzing a substrate. Some enzymes can also act on a class of molecules enabling the possibility to develop biosensors for detection of multiple analytes. Biosensors can also be developed for molecules (analytes) having inhibitory actions against enzyme. Immobilized enzyme often has more stability than it in solution due to its increase in resistance to changes of pH and temperature. Immobilization of enzyme is imperative to receive signal from a suitable transducer. However, immobilization process, if not optimized strategically often changes the physical and chemical properties of enzyme, resulting unintended inactivity.
