Abstract
A method for enlarging viewing zone of holographic display by time-multiplexing of high order terms of a spatial light modulator (SLM), which is previously wasted, is proposed. Among many order terms, the plus-minus first order and zeroth order are guided by a precisely designed holographic optical element, so that they can propagate parallel to each other. In the recording process, the recording material is divided in 3 parts and the gratings in all regions are recorded for guiding corresponding order term to an identical direction. Thus, the diffraction angle of each region of the holographic optical element is determined by the angle between adjacent orders of the SLM. Furthermore, the intensities of the selected orders are unified by adjusting the exposure energy in the recording process. A reflection type holographic optical element is recorded and the feasibility is verified experimentally.
