Coherent driving of rare earth ions embedded in a crystal for quantum information application

Abstract

In order to prepare rare earth ion pairs in an entangled state, we investigate coherent driving techniques with the help of a highly stabilized semiconductor laser. The ions are dispersed in a crystal at low temperature.
