Abstract
Organic molecular salts can be highly nonlinear optical materials which show considerable promise for second-order (χ(2)) nonlinear optical applications such as frequency conversion and electro-optic modulation.[1−3] While the corresponding third-order (χ(3)) nonlinear properties have been less extensively studied,[4] structural considerations and preliminary experimental measurements indicate that the effective χ(3) of some single crystal materials may be exceptionally large. One such material is Dimethy Amino N-Methyl Stilbazolium Tosy- late (DAST), the electro-optic properties of which have been explored cooperatively by ourselves and colleagues at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).[5]
