Abstract

The availability of high peak power lasers has revolutionized experimental research on the behavior of matter perturbed by strong electric fields (E ≥ e2/ao). Molecules are a very interesting class of systems for study, since (i) a multitude of species is readily available, which can involve almost all known atoms in a wide variety of combinations, and (ii) it has been experimentally found that the coupling is sensitive to the molecular structure.
