Collective Spontaneous Recombination in Semiconductor Magnetooptics

Abstract

We consider the collective spontaneous recombination in direct band-gap semiconductors. In a rigorous formulation of the problem we suppose that at initial moment a pump-pulse creates degenerate electron-hole (eh) pairs near the band-gap edges. The incipient generation of eh pairs radiation starts in the absence of coherent external field at the resonant frequency, (ω0≅εgap/ħ. Then, recombination superradiance of eh plasma is a rapid transient process, that does not depend on relaxation and thermal effects, and provides the fundamental limits on the minimum duration, τRSR, and the maximum intensity, IRSR, of spontaneous pulses emitted out of an active sample.[1,2]
