A New Approach to the Phenomenon of Molecular Orientation in Gases

Abstract

The relationship between optical orientation of molecules in gas and its thermodynamical state can be explained within the kinetic theory of gases in terms of the ratio of the time required for a molecule to become fully oriented in the optical field to the mean time between subsequent collisions.
