Simple FM Spectroscopy Using Intrinsic FM Noise of Semiconductor Lasers

Abstract

Recently Yabuzaki et al[1] reported a new type of high-resolution spectrocopy with an Al-GaAs Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser. Intensity fluctuation of the radiation transmitted through Rb or Cs vapor was increased when the laser frequency was resonant with an absorption line of the atoms. Frequency spectrum of the fluctuation extending to a radiofrequency region involved informations about sub-Doppler structure, such as Zeeman and hyperfine spectra.
