Abstract

The performance of optical fibre Faraday current sensors in often limited by both the intrinsic birefringence and the bend-induced linear birefringence inside the fibre.[1, 2] High Verdet constant bulk-glass current sensor do not subject to these problems.[3] However there are problems arise in designing closed loop bulk glass sensing elements, as additional phase shifts occur as a result of internal reflections, and also the light beams must undergo to follow a closed path.[4]
