Abstract
The set of Maxwell-Bloch equations is widely used for the inI estigation of laser dynamics as well as other problems of nonlinear optics, where we deal with the interaction of the medium with the field. vn this set of equations the coupling of the atoms with the field is introduced just as the additional dynamical term i[V(t), ρ]/ħ into the left-hand-side of the master equation for the atomic system. As a result, the master equation for the atomic system coupled to the field and interacting with the reservoir has the form[1]: with the same relaxation matrix as in the absence of the field. This means that the influence of the field on the relaxation processes in the atomic system is not taken into account at all.
