Abstract

The current interest in finding materials having very large optical nonlinearities is a result of the very promising prospect of utilizing such materials in a wide variety of optoelectronic devices.1 Finding optimal materials for such applications requires a fundamental understanding of the connection between molecular structure and optical nonlinearity. In addition, it is necessary to have a convenient and reliable method for determining the nonlinearity of a molecule or material.
