Integrated Optical Isolators: An Introduction

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The basic options for building an integrated optical isolator are reviewed. For the most relevant case of linear time-independent isolators some fundamental aspects with respect to (non)-reciprocity are discussed. Some specific implementations are presented, especially the options for isolation in a silicon photonics context.
