Abstract
Tunable wavelength converters are requested for high capacity optical signal processing networks. Key parameters are flexibility for a large number of input and output wavelengths, which are given by the system channels, and high speed operation at multigigabit data rates. Regeneration of the extinction ratio of the signal is also required in systems with multiple active components, which add noise and thus reduce the extinction ratio of the optical signal. A single chip wavelength converter device is preferred with respect to a hybride setup.
