Abstract
Passive waveguide components fabricated by K+ − Na+ ion-exchange in glass have demonstrated great potential for low-loss single-mode integrated optical devices. Recently, active components made by combining these ion-exchanged guides with overlayers of semiconductor have received considerable interest for optical detection applications1.
