Abstract
Recently, progress has been reported in the development and application of nonlinear-optical (NLO) polymers.1-3 Single-mode devices, such as interferometers and phase-modulators, have been realized with stable performances to approximately 50°C. However, for many applications higher temperature stability is required. A new class of materials, consisting of cross-linked polymers, has been developed. These materials offer a higher stability and allow for the construction of multilayer structures in which both core and cladding layers are NLO active. First results obtained with these new polymers in waveguide experiments are reported.
