Abstract
Usually the parametric and the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) effects in fibers are discussed independent of each other. We show here theoretically and experimentally that parametric interaction can suppress SRS in single-mode fibers. We also show that the Raman nonlinearity considerably changes the values of increment and frequency of modulational instability (MI).
