Computed and Measured Illumination Beam-Waist Phenomena

Abstract

Computer generated beam maps are shown for three applications having very different physical dimensions. The large scale application is a theater spotlight. At an intermediate scale, beam maps used to study the transmission characteristics of a fiber coupling optical system are also shown. At the smallest scale, the waist map and beam cross-sections are shown for a study of the depth-of-focus characteristics around the image of a fiber-optic imaging bundle.
